Current News

This is a new section of the website, designed to keep you up to date as our magazine only comes out every two months.

Carers in Bedfordshire is now a company limited by guarantee and so has had to re-register with the Charity Commission.  Our new number is 1135507

Pat Wilkins, who was our Carer Support Worker for carers working within NHS Bedfordshire, has recently left us.  NHS carers should initially contact Yvonne Clark for ongoing help and support.

Elaine Wallbank is responsible for our volunteer training programme, aimed at training carers who would like to help other carers through personal or telephone 'befriending'.

Yvonne Clark and Sally Petre are responsible for our training programme for carers, which includes short courses in microwave cookery, digital photography and computing, together with one-off events on useful topics such as 'Understanding Dementia'.

Problems with NHS funding have now been overcome and the Choices for Carers scheme, which provides breaks for carers, is once more underway.

Although we have two offices with the possibility of a third being added in the south, you can ring anyone in our organisation on 01234 214914. Thanks to a very sophisticated telephone system you can now be transferred directly.

Carers Cafes

The Carers Cafes will have been running for a year in May and we hope to hold a big birthday celebration at the Rufus Centre. We now have approximately 200 carers, cared-for and immediate family members attending the cafes each month. As far as we are aware, nothing like it and on this scale runs anywhere else in the country. Further details will be announced in our magazine and on this web site.

Carers in Bedfordshire's Magazine

Our magazine called "Carers" is published every two months and is posted to all carers and interested professionals who are registered with us. It is glossy A5 in format and typically contains 20 pages.

Besides giving useful information we also try to make it entertaining with a quiz, reviews, photographs, menus and articles written by our carers.  If you would like to receive a regular copy please let us know.
